How to Transmute Democracy to Christian Theocracy

For the past decade, I have wondered how Trump managed to get himself nominated for President. Since then, I've been bewildered at how he could proceed to plunge American democracy into free fall with so little resistance from Republicans. 

Then I read about a global network of non-denominational charismatic Christian supremacists, in the book The Violent Take It By Force: The Christian Movement That Is Threatening Our Democracy by Matthew Taylor (Broadfleaf Books, 2024). If you haven't read it yet, it's well worth reading. It gave me plenty of  food for thought.

In a nutshell, the political extremists in the Republican Party could never have gotten Trump nominated for President in 2016 without the influence of these Christian Supremacists, who had been working for at least 30 years to convert democracies around the globe to Christian theocracies. They believe Trump was anointed by God to be His "wrecking ball" in the United States, and they are delighted with the "progress" he has made.

If Trump and his billionaire buddies are not stopped, we can expect them to (1) bankrupt the US government; (2) trip a few climate tipping points; (3) start World War III; and (4) trigger an avalanche of satellite collisions, which would rain space debris into the atmosphere.

Such events can be read by Christians as signs of the Second Coming, as prophesied in the New Testament: “People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken” (Luke 21:26). Small wonder that a fanatical subset of Christians would do whatever it takes to accelerate the destruction of the world. They want to see Jesus during their lifetimes, as He interrupts whatever He's doing in Heaven and parachutes down to save the world.

What next? Will these pseudo-Christians save the world by pestering Jesus to come again? Will they theocratize the world only to be destroyed along with everybody else? Or will they be defeated by genuine Christians and others who care for all people, regardless of faith, before their unwitting agents in government and industry inflict irreversible damage?
